In 1958, in order to protect the Baolan Railway which passes through the desert of Zhongwei City, under the guidance and help of the sand experts of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhongwei City began to control sand and forestation, and created the world-famous grass square lattice method of sand fixation, which ensured the unhindered passage of the Baolan Railway, and created a great achievement in China's sand control science.
